2. JURNALISTUL OCTAVIAN CURPAŞ (Phoenix Magazine – Arizona)
Born on August 1972 in Oradea, Romania, Octavian Curpaş reached the Promised Land in March 1997, after working for three years as editor of a newspaper in Romania. He lived in California for eight years, after which he relocated – in March 12, 2005 to the city of Surprise Arizona, USA. That same year, he arrived in Arizona, he married with his wife, Roxana, who worked as a dental assistant. Both endowed with the power of hard work and diligence they have opened their own business in real estate which they are still currently working in. On May 19, 2009 they received the best gift from God, their first child, little Janice, this name was chosen for its special meaning “God is gracious.”
Writer, journalist by vocation (with higher education in journalism, international business and legal sciences), Octavian Curpaş is an important name of the press today. He writes with grace and dedication to several U.S. publications, but also in Romania, he is editor of publications “Colorado Beetle” and “Phoenix Magazine”. I always imagined that the journalists should have certain traits: love of literature, people, nature’s beauty, love of their craft, a competitive spirit, compelling in their writing, dedicated to their calling, gifted, having a keen sense of observation and reason, in short, proving a deep love for everything around them, being honest to themselves, i.e. to their thinking and judgment, honest to the wrong and being ready to provide help with the broad views of their mind.
I thought and I think, journalists should not let appearances or situations hinder them, to be discerning in what they see, hear and write, to be honest to themselves, certain of their ideas and thoughts, honest to the readers, able to help others with his wisdom, by expressing thoughts through words on a newspaper page, humble and not arrogant, but to be honest and transparent, to have dignity, not giving in to the challenge or the insults, to be humorous with the humor of the Romanian spirit when needed, with which readers can smoothly comprehend, without frowning because of the everyday challenges of life, not rancorous, but friendly and serene, able to admit that they may fail; know when to ask, in this case, needed apologies, be bold, courageous and love of God. Octavian’s articles are succinct, i.e. have maximum information with minimum words. With great certainty, manifesting these traits from the soul and being able to bring them to the surface and use in such a beautiful career, polishing them, for the people’s good of the society in which we live.
All these qualities are found in Octavian Curpaş, flowing through his body, having that “vein” of journalism from which he fielded countless interviews, dialogues, and articles, highlighting the special people and often providing the gems of a society which we all like to know better. He, also, distinguishes himself through his activities of literary criticism. He is able to distinguish a good book from a bad book and has the talent to find authors who tend to shy away, but whose works deserves to be discussed and be removed from the ordinary crowds, and he does so with talent, with thoroughness and depth of understanding. In his writings he intelligently captures the idea and message of the book, by highlighting the essence of the literary work and ultimately creates inspired summaries.
Unlike some writers which treats lightly their profession, omitting many “pearls” of writings, Octavian Curpaş prefers to make a brief monograph of the books, to highlight the hidden beauties created, giving them shine, as Cioran once said: ” When you write a book you, never know who’s fate will be forgotten … A book or a book without echo can always come back to life. “. Just as literature is the art of the work, written through artistic expression that gives to the writers imagination, feelings, being part of the social phenomenon, so is the art and literary criticism, and to one who ventured to this, even more it is required to be more than just a writer. So, there is mandatory a cultural knowledge, both in quantity and quality. Octavian Curpaş has this cultivated knowledge and always thirsts for it.
I am convinced that all newspaper journalists, such as those from “Colorado Beetle”, have enjoyed a career full of enthusiasm, optimism and ideals. The number of magazine subscriptions has grown, and increased, and as the years will go by, the journalists and the youth talents will be more beautiful as before, because they will have to benefit from the mysterious light, which will flow from their hearts, committing their journalistic wonders onto a beautiful creation.
Celebrating you means to celebrating us, to live with a great job satisfaction, because we can say with pride, and each of us can say: ”I am your colleague!”

Născut în luna august, 1972, în Oradea, Romania, Octavian Curpaș a ajuns pe pământul făgăduinței în martie 1997, după ce a lucrat timp de trei ani ca redactor la un cotidian din România. A ales pentru început California unde a locuit timp de opt ani, după care s-a stabilit – din 12 martie, 2005 – în orașul Surprise din Arizona, Statele Unite. În același an, după sosirea în acest stat, și-a unit viața cu Roxana, de profesie asistent dentar. Amândoi înzestrați cu putere de muncă și hărnicie și-au deschis propriul business în domeniul imobiliar în care lucrează și în prezent. În data de 19 mai 2009 au primit cel mai frumos dar al Domnului, primul lor copil, micuța Janice, nume ales de părinți pentru semnificația deosebită „Dumnezeu este îndurător”.
Scriitor, publicist de vocaţie şi jurnalist (cu studii superioare în jurnalism, ştiințe juridice şi business internațional), Octavian Curpaş este un nume important al presei zilelor noastre. Scrie cu har și dăruire la multe publicații din Statele Unite, dar și din România; este redactor la publicațiile „Gândacul de Colorado” și „Phoenix Magazine”. Întotdeauna mi-am imaginat jurnalistul ca un iubitor de literatură și oameni, cu un caracter frumos, cu dragoste de meserie, acea emulație scriitoricească, chemare, talent, spirit de observație și de dreptate, dragoste pentru tot ce este în jurul său.
Am crezut și cred că jurnalistul nu trebuie să se lase păcălit de aparențe sau de intervenții, să aibă discernământ în ceea ce vede, aude și scrie; să fie cinstit față de sine, adică față de gândirea și judecata sa, cinstit și față de cel care greșește și căruia îi sare în ajutor cu deschiderea judecății sale, expusă în cuvinte, pe pagina unui ziar; să-i lipsească îngâmfarea, aroganța, dar să fie integru, tranșant; să aibă demnitate, să nu se lase ispitit de provocări, insulte; să aibă umor, desigur numai în situații posibile, acel umor specific spiritului românesc, cu care poate descreți frunțile cititorilor, încruntate din cauza provocărilor cotidiene ale vieții; să nu fie ranchiunos, ci prietenos și să admită cu seninătate că și el poate greși; să știe să-și ceară, în această situație, scuzele necesare; să fie îndrăzneț, curajos și cu iubire de Dumnezeu; articolul lui să fie concis, adică să aibă maximum de informație cu minimum de cuvinte. Cam multe cerințe și totuși, pentru o atât de frumoasă carieră, merită să cauți aceste calități în sufletul tău și să le scoți la suprafață, să le cizelezi, pentru binele oamenilor, al societății în care trăim.
Toate aceste calități le-am descoperit la Octavian Curpaș. Prin trupul său curge acea « vână » de jurnalist și aceasta se simte în nenumăratele interviuri, dialoguri, în care știe să uzeze de calitățile respective, scoțând în evidență oameni deosebiți, de multe ori vârfuri ale societății care merită să fie mai bine cunoscute. În activitatea de critică literară are capacitatea de a deosebi o carte bună de o carte proastă și talentul de a descoperi autori care stau cu sfială deoparte, dar a căror opere merită să fie comentate, să fie scoase din anonimat, și o face cu talent, cu meticulozitate și profunzime a înțelegerii. În cronicile pe care le realizează, prinde cu inteligență ideile și mesajele cărților, pune în lumină elementele prețioase, valoarea literară a lucrărilor și în final creează titluri rezumative foarte bine inspirate.
Spre deosebire de unii cronicari care tratează cu superficialitate opera, omițând multe „perle” ale scrierilor, Octavian Curpaș preferă să realizeze o concisă monografie a cărții, să scoată în relief frumusețile ascunse ale creației, dându-le strălucire, fiindcă bine spunea Cioran: „Când scrii o carte nu știi niciodată care-i va fi soarta… O carte uitată sau o carte fără ecou poate oricând să revină la viață.” După cum literatura este artă a cuvântului prin intermediul căreia scriitorii dau expresie artistică imaginației, sentimentelor, fenomenelor sociale, tot așa și critica literară este artă, iar celui care se încumetă să o facă, i se cere chiar mai mult decât unui scriitor, existența obligatorie a bagajului culturii, atât din punct de vedere cantitativ, cât și din cel al calității. Octavian Curpaș are acest bagaj și este un veșnic însetat de cultură.
Sunt convinsă că toți jurnaliștii ziarului „Gândacul de Colorado” au intrat în viață și-n carieră cu entuziasm, cu optimism și cu idealuri. Numărul aparițiilor revistei a crescut, va crește, vor trece anii și ei, jurnaliștii, vor fi și mai tineri și mai frumoși ca la început, fiindcă vor avea acea tainică lumină pe chipuri, ce va izvorî din sufletele lor, săvârșind adevărate minuni ale creației lor jurnalistice.
